Heres some pics of Gayle Hoover's Flying Pig.
( click on the pics to get the big picture.)
|
Its all Gayle's idea. Chicken wire, papermache, a honda ATV, and a last minute coat of pink paint, and the pig goes to BurningMan 2000. The wings never got finished, nor did any of the EL wire, but it was still a great way to get around the playa till it stopped runing altogether. even unfinished, it was a hit. |
|
|
So for BM 2001, it had to be done proper. While i worked
on the wiring and engine of the ATV, Mike and Gayle decided to play with
Polyester Resin and Fiberglass, making the pig a rather solid and respectable
beast.

| Heres Gayle putting some finsihing base touches to the head piece. The final coating was mixed with purple dye, and a clear coat was applyed after a healthy application of gliter to the still tacky purple | |
|
Here she is fresh off the truck at the playa. No eyes
or wings at this point, but at least she starts and runs good now! Notice
the instant playa camoflaugue already begining to stick.

| Mike admires his license plate addition, while John shows me how to wire up the wings. | |
|
Now fully assembled, she sits at the front of the Mad-Scientists
Camp awaiting takeoff clearance.

| To get some idea of what she looks like at nite, here is an excellent slow-shutter photo from John Wendt which shows all 5 pairs of wings lit up. | |
|
The true beauty of Johns sequencer can only be appreciated
live. There is a speed switch so that the wings could flap slow, fast,
or "hummingbird" for those mad dashes across the playa.
